The New 7 Wonders of Nature Announced

The New 7 Wonders of Nature have been announced. These are: Amazon Rainforest (in South America); Iguazu Falls (at the border of Brazil and Argentina); Jeju Volcanic Island (off South Korea); Komodo National Park (in Indonesia); Puerto Princesa Underground River (in the Philippines); Table Mountain (in South Africa); and ${attraction_Ha_Long_Bay:”Ha Long Bay”} (in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam).

This result is based on the first count of the competition’s global vote which officially ended at 11:11 in the morning GMT and conducted in the official New7Wonders of Nature Foundation headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. Founder-President Bernard Weber expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped and participated in the competition including all the citizens, organizations, public bodies and governments. He stated that the campaign went on for four years, with more than 440 locations from over 220 countries. The list trimmed down to 28 finalists until the New 7 Wonders of Nature were finally chosen.

The results of the competition are provisional. The results will be checked, validated and verified independently. After the voting validation process, the New7Wonders of Nature Foundation will work with the competition winners and organize the official inauguration events in the early months of 2012. Since the results are provisional, this means that the winners during the first count may not be confirmed during the validation process. If this happens, the foundation will release a media update right away.

Bernard Weber extended his congratulations to the contest’s fist count winners, for achieving their “provisional” status of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. He expressed his excitement in completing the confirmation process so that each winner will be able to formally celebrate its own inaugural ceremony early next year. Moreover, the confirmation will automatically include them in the man-made New 7 Wonders of the World and become part of the Global Memory.

To be part of such a prestigious global status chosen and decided by the humankind itself is an honor indeed that will go down in history and be remembered and acknowledged forever.
