Survey: Google Most Popular Website in Vietnam

Google is the most visited website in Vietnam. This, according to a survey conducted by the market research company Cimigo. Their data showed that 48% of internet users in the country frequent the popular website Google. During the end of 2010, results of the survey also revealed that almost 27 million people were online. This is equal to about 31% of the whole population.

Google, including google.com and google.com.vn, is a popular website that goes beyond genders, age groups, economic classes and even geographical regions. This finding is based on a study by Viet Nam Netcitizens Report 2011 conducted in November and December of 2010.

Survey figures show 89% of internet users use Google as their search site. When it comes to news, 16% of Vietnamese who are online go to vnexpress.net to check out the latest happening in their area. Dantri.com.vn comes in second with 15% while tuoitre.com.vn is the third choice with an 8% following.

Youtube tops the chart in the online entertainment category. 14% of internet users watch while 11% download the videos on the popular video channel.

Zing is another frequently visited website. It has a 49% rating in listening and a 55% rating in downloading. When it comes to email and chatting, Yahoo still leads the pack with a 65% following.

Enbac.com dominates the online shopping arena with visitors to the site making up 13% of the whole population. E-Banking users turn to Vietcombank.com.vn for their banking needs, totaling to 23% of internet users to the online bank.

According to the survey, almost 90% of users use the internet more than once a week while 60% go online practically everyday. Studies show that internet users spend an average of 140 minutes per day online. In ${bigcity_Ho_Chi_Minh_City:”Ho Chi Minh City”}, this figure has risen to 150 minutes while in ${bigcity_Hanoi:"Hanoi"}, people go online for as long as 160 minutes everyday.

Given this time spent on the internet, the usual activities online users engage in are information gathering, listening to music, school research, and office work. Watching the news tops information gathering with 94% and searching 92%. Listening to music and school research make up 78% while office work done online has a 72% rating.
