Saigon Inaugurates New River Tours

In order to improve its river tourism, Saigon introduced new tours, seven high-speed boats which can carry 20 passengers each and can go up to a maximum speed of 50 kph to travel from Tan Cang to Cu Chi, Binh Duong, Can Gio and District 9. These may be the usual destinations for the river tours, but this time with new features to entice more visitors.

While the Tan Cang – Cu Chi route originally does not stop at Binh Duong, it does now, taking its passengers on an interesting tour around a popular orchard and ancient house.

The Can Gio route now makes a stop at Can Thanh from its initial destination of Dan Xay ecotourism area. Can Thanh is the center of the outlying district, somewhere tourists can have an enjoyable and memorable time taking in local market life for themselves.

The canoe tour is reasonably priced at VND750,000 (US$33) to about VND2.14 million (US$94) per adult and around VND560,000 (US$25) to VND1.61 million (US$70) per child.

Since the Bach Dang Wharf in District 1 was shut down, river tours designed to dock in the area were forcibly closed. Ho Chi Minh City tried to revive this tourism for a time, but produced negative results. The launching of seven powerful boats and new features to the overall system proved successful, with a 16% rise of tourist arrival in the capital in the first nine months of 2017 than in 2016. This means that from January to September alone of this year, 4.2 million visitors entered Ho Chi Minh City, and will more likely increase in number by the end of 2017.
