Touropia, a popular travel blog, recently came out with a list of the top most beautiful Terraced Fields in the word, and listed Vietnam’s Sa Pa rice terraces at number 11.

  Sapa is an incredibly picturesque town that located in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range near the Chinese border in northwestern Vietnam. Its terraced fields is among the most popular attractions in the country as it creates creating a magnificent picture at different seasons of the year. It can be found in the Muong Hoa valley between Sa Pa town and the Fansipan Mountain, on a backdrop of thick bamboo woodlands. Locals in the area, the Hmong, Giay, Dao, Tay, and Giay tribes, grow rice, corn and vegetables on these paddy terraces.

Terraces Cultivation, also known as Step Farming, is widely in rice farming mostly in the Southeast Asia. The technique is used to cultivate sloped land such as on hilly or mountainous terrain and are known effective for growing crops requiring much water.   In 2009, another famous travel magazine Travel and Leisure (US) also listed Sapa terraces in Top 7 most beautiful and spectacular terraces in Asia and the world.

   Other terraced fields mentioned in Touropia’s list include Douro Valley (Portugal), Bali (Indonexia), Choquequyrao, Pisac, Salinas de Maras, Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo (Peru), Long ji, Hani (China), and Banaue (Philippines).     The well-acclaimed Touropia site features the most amazing world-wide destinations and travel-related topics is also known for preparing amazing “best of” lists that many travel-seekers find very useful.
