When travelling to Phu Quy Island used to cost a lot, nowadays it only takes about VND1 million or US$45 in order to spend not only one day but two straight days in this naturally beautiful exotic island.

Phu Quy Island is situated off mainland Binh Thuan Province on the South-Central Coast. It is famous for ancient structures such as the Linh Son Pagoda and other natural scenery like varied rock formations, fishponds and a lighthouse. Tourists can enjoy such activities as diving, urchin catching and fishing for a mere VND500,000. Visitors can explore the island by renting a motorcycle for only VND50,000 for a whole day tour.

When it comes to food, guests are assured of fresh seafood everyday which they can have cooked by the local residents and eat by the beach. Homestay services are available wherein visitors can stay overnight or more at the villagers’ houses for an affordable price of VND50,000 but guaranteed of a decent and personalized, warm service.

In order to get to the island, one must take a bus ride from HCMC to Phan Thiet City in Binh Thuan Province and then travel 120 kilometres by boat to reach the island itself. The bus ride costs VND240,000 for a round trip between Phan Thiet and Mien Dong Coach Station in HCMC. There are two boat rides per day, one in the morning which departs at 8:00 a.m. and another in the afternoon. A normal boat takes six hours to travel to the island while a high-speed boat cuts the trip to four hours.  

April and May are the best times to visit Phu Quy Island when the sea is calm, treating tourists to a truly relaxing and memorable stay.
