Nature and Water Sports Adventure at Nha Trang Bay

If you love the outdoors, nature and particularly water sports, Nha Trang Bay is the ideal destination for you as it offers several water sport activities that will definitely keep your adrenaline pumping. Whether you prefer windsurfing, parasailing, jet skiing, flyboarding or kayaking, experiencing one or more of these water sports will surely leave a lasting memory of Nha Trang that will want you to go back and relive it all over again.

Windsurfing is one water sport that has been around for a long time and a favourite among a large number of people. It is basically a blend between surfing and sailing wherein a board that is approximately 2-3 metres long with a volume of 60-250 litres is powered by wind on a sail. There is a rig which is attached to the board by a free-rotating universal joint composed of a mast, two-sided boom and sail. The sail is about 2.5-12 metre square relative to wind conditions and skill of the surfer himself.

Kayaking is another popular water sport that is often confused with canoeing. The difference between the two is by their sitting position and number of blades. Kayaking requires the rider to sit with his or her legs in front, facing forward and using a double-bladed paddle. A closed deck kayak is what has been originally used since the sport began, but today different designs have been developed like the sit-on-tops and inflatable. It costs VND200,000-300,000 ($10-$12) to take a one-hour ride which is worth all the fun and adventure.

Water Skiing is another favourite water sport among many in which the person is pulled by a boat or a cable ski installation over the water using a ski or slalom. He or she ten skims over through the water using one or two skis. Since there is a possibility of going under the water, a flotation device is required to be worn for safety and security reasons. Up to three people can ski at the same time and costs VND200,000 ($9). Age requirement is not strictly implemented but the rider has to have a strong upper and lower body strength, muscular endurance and good balance in order to be allowed to participate in the sport.

Parasailing is another popular water sport which also requires a person to be pulled by a boat while attached to a parachute-type of apparatus called parasail wing. It is also known as parascending or parakiting because the rider ascends like a kite in the air as the boat accelerates. Two up to three people can also parasail all at the same time. The ride takes about ten minutes and is worth around VND500,000-600,000 ($23-$28).

Flyboarding is a fairly new sport which is all the craze now because it imitates the feeling of flying over water. The rider stands on a board which is connected to a long hose and watercraft. He or she will also wear a water jet pack which is attached to a personal water craft (PWC) which supplies propulsion to push the flyboard over the air and water. The rider will also wear a pair of boots which is pressurized by water and connected to the board. It is equipped with jet nozzles at the bottom which is responsible for “flying” up to 15 metres into the air and dive into the water at around 2.5 metres deep. It is a little expensive at VND1.2 million ($60) for a 15-minute ride but it is worth all the exhilaration.
