Marine Port Authority Representative Office to be Established in Truong Sa District

A representative office of the Nha Trang Maritime Port Authority will be opened in Truong Sa District, Central Khanh Hoa Province. The decision was made by the director of the Ministry of Transport’s Vietnam Maritime Administration on November 15, 2014 and made official through Decision No. 568/ QD-CHHVN.  The establishment of a representative office in the island will aid in the safeguarding of shipping operations and as well as ensuring the freedom of navigation in connection with Vietnam’s law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Constructing such office in the said district will also confirm Vietnam’s authority of the sea areas and islands under its sovereign control, creating a firmer guard on its sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction. Moreover, proper authorities will work hand in hand with relevant agencies on such issues as search and rescue missions and environmental pollution prevention. Furthermore, the stipulation opened the door for the clear identification of the waters of Truong Sa seaport based in Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and listed in the ministerial Circular No. 21/ 2014/ TT-BGTVT.

The ceremony was conducted in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province wherein VMA Director Nguyen Nhat delivered an address. Nha Trang Maritime Port Authority Director Pham Van Chuong also attended the event.
