Hue City was awarded the prestigious title accomplishing the meticulous requirements: Cleanliness; Environment and Waste Management; Green Space Around the City; Security and Health; Urban Safety; and Tourism Infrastructure.

The Pilgrimage Village Boutique Resort and Spa was considered a “green hotel” for practicing environmental friendliness and energy conservation and for meeting the other criteria for the award: Environmental Plan; Green Product; Human Resources; and Environmental Management.

Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Director of the Tourism Department of Thua Thien – Hue Province noted though that the total number of awardees in the province has lessened, from 10 the past few years to five this year, due to stricter guidelines for the said award.

Vietnam joined the association in 1995. ASEAN inaugurated “Green Standards” for the cities and hotels of its member countries in 2006 and enforced it in 2008. The ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard was created to provide its member countries with the correct tools to enhance the quality of its tourism, while the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard targets to strengthen the capacity of hotel facilities for environmental-friendliness and energy conservation.

Hoi an and Da Lat were also named Clean Tourist City along with Hue, while other Vietnamese hotels also received the ASEAN Green Hotel Standard: Flamingo Dai Lai Resort in Northern Vinh Phuc Province; Four Seasons The Nam Hai Resort in Central Quang Nam Province; Ho Tram Beach Boutique Resort and Spa; and Six Senses Con Dao Resort in Central Southern Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province.
