Ho Chi Minh Greets Year of the Monkey with Colorful Floral Streets

The annual flower street event in Ho Chi Minh City will be held from 5 – 12 Feb, 2016, slightly longer versus the previous year in order to welcome more visitors.
Under the theme “Ho Chi Minh City – Peace, Prosperity and Development,” this year’s Tet celebration will cover between February 6-14. Flowers form an integral part of the Vietnamese New Year celebrations. To strengthen tradition and after seeing the number of tourists drawn to the city to because of the attraction, the event has been held annually since 2004. Its traditional venue, Nguyen Hue, was closed last year for the construction of pedestrian street. This year, the 720-metre flower street will return to Nguyen Hue Boulevard and is expected to welcome over one million visitors. Nguyen Hue Flower Street 2016 will stretch from Le Thanh Ton Street to Ton Duc Thang Street. The street will be decorated by millions of flowers from across Vietnam to depict the overall theme.

Tao Dan Spring Flower Festival
Another of the city’s biggest annual flower fair, the festival at Tao Dan Park in District 1 will open from February 3-14, displaying over 5,000 indigenous and foreign flowers, ornamental fish, bonsai plants and trees. The event will also feature floriculture presentations from local and foreign artisans, traditional games, musical performances, circus shows, and exhibitions on painting, photo and calligraphy. An entrance fee of VND20,000 will be collected for adults while children will enjoy free admission.

More Spring Flower Markets Across the City Including the biggest flower markets, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has agreed to organize a total of 131 spring flower markets in districts to serve residents and tourists during Tet. District 10 will have the most flower markets with 21 locations, followed by Thu Duc, Can Gio and District 8. The city's three biggest markets will be located at September 23 Park, Gia Dinh Park, and Le Van Tam Park and will open from February 1 to 7. Free WiFi will be available at Le Van Tam park, Gia Dinh park, Phu My Hung flower market, Binh Dien market, Le Thi Rieng park (District 10) and Phu Lam park (District 6), and majority of the markets.
Priced between VND25,000-60,000 (US$1.1-3) per pot, traditional flowers like roses, daisies, carnations and marigolds are expected to be best-sellers this year.
