Flower Road Being Prepared for Tet

Flower Road Being Prepared for Tet

Ham Nghi Street in downtown Ho Chi Minh City is also known as the “Flower Road” because of its annual tradition of being decked with flowers in celebration of the Lunar New Year. In this year’s Tet, the flower decorations will cover 580 meters from Pho Duc Chinh to Ho Tung Mao.

Ham Nghi Street will be set up in three parts according to the products and other pride of Vietnam. Vietnam’s Magnanimity (Hao Khi Viet Nam) will feature handicrafts, regional dolls and other national and local Vietnamese products. Vietnamese Identity (Ban Sac Viet) will highlight the colourful hues of Vietnam, such as apricot flowers which represent spring season. Glory Viet Nam (Vinh Quang Viet Nam) will focus on the urban aspect of the country, as exemplified in such things as letterboxes, door frames and metro lines, all of which are styled with or completely made out of flowers.

Aside from flowers, other attractions are also planned to make the festival more joyful and memorable. Mascots will bring life and excitement to the celebration. A book fair, which is also a yearly activity during Tet, will also be set in place between Ho Tung Mau and Ton Duc Thang Streets. All adornments and events will symbolize an important facet of Vietnam such as its countryside, cities, metro systems, and its beautiful customs all in all.

Work will start on February 6, but Nguyen Hue Street has already been closed to begin the preparations for the most anticipated affair in Vietnam. Ham Nghi Street will be fully adorned and open to the public from February 16 – 22, 2015. This year’s Tet will fall on February 19.

Ham Nghi Street was constructed 11 years ago. With a long-standing tradition of unique festivities and true love for one’s country, the “Flower Road” will definitely stand the test of time.
