Flower Markets to Color the Streets of HCMC on Tet

As a highly indispensable annual activity every Lunar New Year, the Flower Festival this year hopes to bring a richer assortment of blossoms to attract more locals and tourists during Tet season. Coming to Vietnam during Tet engulf visitors in an ocean of colorful flowers bringing color and life to the entire country. The Tet Lunar New Year Flower Festival 2012 will be held at two areas in ${bigcity_Ho_Chi_Minh_City:”Ho Chi Minh City”}, in Cong truong Quoc te (known as the Turtle Pond, in District 3) and Tao Dan Park in District 1 respectively. The display will take place on January 18. The flower festival features a display of bonsai, flower, artistic rocks and aquariums by artisans nationwide. The scent and the very inviting view adds more to the festive atmosphere, but mostly, it aims to highlight the country's cultural traditions.

The most popular item in flower markets include flowering peach trees, symbolizing of life and good fortune. Traditionally, people bring such to their homes to celebrate the coming of spring. As vendors pour into the city, and more flowers will be added to the display, the streets of Ho Chi Minh will look like a bustling forest.

Visitors can participate in many activities, including a ceremony to release flowers, garlands and lanterns to float on the lake. Several cultural and artistic activities will also take place, including traditional art performances, folk games, a human chess contest, calligraphy, paintings and food stalls.

The flower market, where city residents shop for flowers and plants to decorate their homes for the New Year, will be open from January 16 until midnight January 22.
