First Ever Self-Portrait Contest Opens in Vietnam

The first-ever self-portrait contest, Self-Portraiture, opens in Vietnam. The contest is authored and organized by Italian artist Richard di San Marzano and British painting collector Dominic Scriven. The contest is open to Vietnamese artists 18 years old and above.

The contest aims to inspire emerging, as well as established, Vietnamese artists in the field of self-portrait. The winner will receive the Dogma Prize of a cash award worth VND100 million (US$4,830). Three recognition prizes will be awarded to three artists, each to get VND10 million.

As a sort of continuation of this pioneering event, the ${bigcity_Ho_Chi_Minh_City:”Ho Chi Minh City”} Museum of Fine Arts is planning on sponsoring an exhibition. The best paintings during the competition will be displayed in the museum from July 12-30. Because of the success of the contest, the organizers are planning to make the event a biennial celebration in Vietnam.
Dominic Scriven, the British painting collector and co-author of the contest, has himself a collection of about 80 self-portrait paintings of Vietnamese artists.

The winner of the Dogma Prize competition will be announced on July 12. To know more about the said contest, go to www.dogmacollection.com.
