Drone Footage Shows Splendor of Saigon

The beauty of Ho Chi Minh has been highlighted over and over through its many breathtaking photos. But this time, the photo of the city was taken from an angle not common to many photographs since it was taken from above, with the use of a drone. And to the surprise of many who thought they have explored the entirety of the city’s beauty, HCMC looked even more amazing than anyone has imagined.

Aerial photography and videography are fast-becoming popular trends today. Since it can take photos from very favorable angles, they come up with really surprising shots. Most Hi-tech enthusiasts nowadays use a quadcopter to do aerial shots. A quadcopter (also known as a quadrotor helicopter) is a multirotor helicopter that is lifted and propelled by four rotors.

Nam Air is one of those who got hooked into the hobby and found a way to use such hobby to bring joy to more people through the amazing aerial photos of the city which he took. Of course that’s his Youtube name, but as to who’s behind these jaw-dropping shots prefers to hide under his online display names and keep his personal information private. Nam Air is also known under the nickname of Airblade14 on a popular local tech enthusiasts forum called tinhte.vn. Not interested to be on the limelight, he is willing to interact privately with those who share his interests. In the forum, he said he is happy to share his equipment and filming techniques with anyone interested in the trendy hobby.

Nam Air started uploading videos of the city from the sky to his YouTube channel earlier this year. Impressed by his work, he began to have a good number of followers eager to see more of his shots. His two latest uploads have wowed his viewers the most, as they highlighted in a very beautiful way, the city’s iconic Nha Rong Harbor, Bitexco Tower, and the ‘reborn’ Nhieu Loc canal.

Recorded from a video-equipped DJI Phantom FC40 quadcopter and anti-shake devices, the clip was steady and simply impressive. In his April 20 thread, Nam Air mentioned using a Gopro Hero 3 with 1080p resolution to obtain the shoot along a short part of the Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe canal, which spans 8.7km across five districts in HCMC.

Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe used to be called “a dead canal” due to the fact that it was contaminated with black and smelly waters rendering it uninhabitable for most creatures. Under a pollution elimination master plan by the municipal government, the canal was successfully cleaned and reborn. And how incredible it appeared on Nam Air’s video showed how amazing a job the government has done. The short clip earned more than 8,500 views after a fortnight on YouTube.
