Co Thach Pagoda: 100-Year Old Pilgrimage

Binh Thuan Province is famous for several things. Beautiful beaches is one of them. The other is as a pilgrimage destination, specifically in Co Thach, also known as Chua Hang (cave pagoda).

Co Thach Pagoda is a one-of-kind temple situated between some caves on a mountain, on a rock cliff 64 meters above sea level. But its temple, main palace, bell tower, zen house and ravine are located on the ground on a four-hectare land.

Based on local legends, Co Thach Pagoda was built in 1835 by a monk named Bao Tang. It has been renovated many times since. It was recognized as a national relic in 1993.

Co Thach Pagoda rests among huge rocks which have varying shapes and are overlapping each other. The rocks are so big that they actually form caves, inviting both mystery and interest among tourists. There is a statue called Goddess of Mercy which is also a favorite destination among visitors. Ca Duoc is an untouched beach located below the pagoda and boasts of many, stunning multi-colored stones.

Co Thach Pagoda welcomes about tens of thousands of pilgrims and other kinds of visitors every year. In fact, the place has become so popular that it has adapted commercialism, with vendors flocking to the area selling different items such as souvenirs, herbs, refreshments, and fruits, among others, to tourists who are also more than ready to take something home from Co Thach Pagoda to remind them of such a spiritual and overall memorable experience.
