MobiFone, Vietnam’s leading mobile service provider, has just introduced a pre-paid offer designed exclusively for foreign visitors coming to Vietnam. The Happy Tourist package costs only around VND250,000 (roughly US$12.5) and comes with a simcard and an account, users can avail of either data and SMS only (the Happy Tourist Data package) or the calls, SMS, and data services (through the Happy Tourist Voice & Data package).

Directions are available in English, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese. For both options, the tourist can enjoy 3GB of high-quality 3G data services. The Happy Tourist Data option lets them send SMS to intra-network, trans-network, and international destinations for just VND290, 350, and 2,500 respectively. Data service will cost VND9.77 per 50 kilobytes.

The same would cost VND100, 250, and 2,500 per SMS under the Happy Tourist Voice & Data option, and VND25 per 50 kilobytes for data usage. Calls would cost VND1,580, 1,780, and 3,960 per minute for intra-network, trans-network, and international calls respectively. The affordable rates help protect the tourists from huge phone bills. Though not the first to offer mobile services for foreign tourists, MobiFone is the first-ever to make available the data and mobile service package in the country.

According to Nguyen Dinh Chien, deputy general director of MobiFone, their company is ensuring constant upgrades in its mobile network services and to come up with various packages to serve customers better. For him, the Happy Tourist packages is contributing to the development of the country’s tourism industry. Happy Tourist package is currently available at airports and popular tourist destinations in Vietnam.
