2014 Tourism Year to Highlight the Central Highlands

Under the theme "High Mountains and Thick Forests of the Central Highlands", the Central Highlands will be the focus of the year-long National Tourism Year 2014 event.

With a significant population of ethnic minorities varying in customs and lifestyles, this part of the country has also been dubbed as a land of mysterious mountains and forests.  

The region is also home to some of the most endangered species in the country, thus tours on wildlife will be made abundant to introduce this part of the country to the entire world along with tours focused on nature, beautiful landscapes and cultural characteristics of ethnic groups living in the highland regions.   A total of nine programs and 17 events are laid out for the tourism year.

Among the major events include the Cultural Week to Celebrate the UNESCO Viet Nam Heritage Festival, a festival of brocade arts, a Central Highlands fashion show, a festival of Central Highlands wooden statues; and an international gong festival. Thirteen of such events of which will take place in Da Lat, the capital city of Lam Dong, while four others are to be held in in Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces.  

A series of sporting events including an elephant race, a boat race, and several folk games will also be held during the year. In addition, a Central Highlands Ethnic Minority Food Festival will also be held as the gastronomic highlight of National Tourism Year 2014.
