2 Million Celebrated Hue Festival

Long-planned to highlight the country’s Tourism year, the 2012 9-day Hue Festival, themed “Cultural Heritage with Integration and Development, the Rendezvous for Historical Cities,” started and ended with huge success. Based on the ticket sales, there is a total of more than two million visitors who participated the hundreds of activities held in different locations in the province. From the tallied visitors, nearly 190,000 were tourists mostly from Thailand, France, Germany and Australia. This figure is a 62 percent increase compared to the previous festival held in 2010.

This year’s festival welcomed nearly 700 reporters from 124 local and international media companies, and featured 65 art troupes from 27 countries including France, England, Denmark, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Israel, India, Mexico, United States, Philippines, Russia, and South Africa. The days-long affair took years for the Hue Festival 2012 Organizing Board to prepare.

World renowned pianist Artur Dutkiewicz, the Junusz Prusinowski Trio from Poland, Mosaic from Israel, Mexican guitarist Paco Renteria, and the Descendance band from Australia were among the international performers highlighted in the event.

Proceeds from this huge tourism effort will largely help the province. Sales and donations will be utilized to restore ${bigcity_Hue:"Hue"}’s buildings, many of which are more than one hundred years old. The festival has transformed Hue both inwardly and outwardly. Many visitors flocked the town since the festival was founded 12 years ago. The 8th Hue Festival will open on April 12, 2014.
